🐉 Astronomia Art Black Dragon
A Mythical Masterpiece in Motion
The Origin of an Icon
When the Astronomia Tourbillon debuted in 2014, it redefined high watchmaking by introducing a vertical movement architecture and four constantly turning satellite arms — a spectacle that captivated collectors and connoisseurs alike.
What followed was a visionary evolution: the Astronomia Art Collection. Born from the idea that the Astronomia's panoramic sapphire crystal case could serve as a miniature gallery, this collection brings together the finest horology and hand-sculpted artistic creations.
The Black Dragon – A Fearsome Guardian
The Astronomia Art Black Dragon is a horological sculpture — a dark, mythical guardian that coils around the movement in a stunning display of power and finesse.
-
A hand-engraved 18K black gold Plated dragon, with glowing ruby eyes, winds through the mechanics.
-
The celestial base is adapted from the Astronomia Sky, rendered in blackened Grade 5 titanium and adorned with white gold constellations.
-
All encased in a 50mm domed sapphire crystal case, with side apertures that reveal every intricate detail.
The dragon doesn’t just accompany the watch — it dominates the space, wrapping around the double-axis tourbillon, the rotating globe, and the signature Jacob-cut diamond.
High Watchmaking Serving High Art
Each dragon begins with meticulous research and 3D planning, followed by casting in solid 18K black gold Plated . Then begins the true artistry — over three months of manual engraving, polishing, and finishing, all performed under magnification by Jacob & Co.'s master craftsmen.
This process transforms each sculpture into a one-of-a-kind creation, resulting in a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in modern horology.
The Movement & Tourbillon
At the heart of this timepiece lies a double-axis tourbillon, engineered to counteract the effects of gravity with multidirectional rotation:
-
Axis 1: Completes a rotation every 60 seconds
-
Axis 2: Completes a rotation every 2.5 minutes
Because of the sculptural dragon, the movement does not make a full rotation around the central axis — a rare exception in the Astronomia line, chosen to prioritize artistic display.
Jacob-Cut Diamond
A one-carat, 288-facet Jacob-cut diamond spins every 30 seconds, casting brilliant reflections throughout the case. Only a handful of master gem cutters in the world can execute this patented cut, which begins from a rough stone twice the final size.
The Black Globe
Made of black lacquered magnesium, the globe spins on two axes every 30 seconds. Its lightweight construction ensures perfect mechanical balance among the four rotating arms.

Astronomia Art Black Dragon
🖤 A rare union of mythology, sculpture, and high complications — where the dragon doesn't tell time, it guards it.
